Sustainability truly matters to us at Hearts and Pearls, so we take great pride in our approach to re-use and reducing our impact on the environment. Where possible we try not to purchase new plastic pots for our seedlings. Instead the weekly recycling is ransacked for usable pot items for propagation and planting.
We purposefully specialise in the smaller-sized plants (rooted and unrooted) cuttings to minimise packaging required when selling online. All of our plants are despatched in cardboard mailing boxes. For those who live locally to us here in Cornwall, you will find us exhibiting at a range of fairs where heavier and a fuller selection of wares are showcased.
Our love of vintage (items considered older than 40 years) are our favourite. Their beauty, practicality and opulence is closely aligned to the qualities of the plants we specialise in – so what better union. What is your favourite piece of vintage? Our site will display some of our favourite vintage finds. We have china tea-cups, sugar bowls, shoes, baskets, pots and other vintage receptacles for sale when we exhibit, enabling your new plant to be even more of a talking point. Let’s celebrate the captivation of these historic items and discover your next collection.
Just imagine when the pieces were originally purchased and the life they have already had. Your plants are best planted in liners, so that they have suitable drainage and do not harm the aged product. So whether you have come to Hearts and Pearls for our plants or vintage we applaud you in supporting our mission to protect and live a more sustainable future.
We are loving the ‘Cottage Rose’ vintage china collection at present, which is in keeping with our gardening theme. Check out this fantastic wheelbarrow displaying a baby String of Pearls.
Did you visit us in Truro?
We were pleased to hold our pop-up sale on 14 May in Truro city centre in Cornwall. A Grand Day Out was the perfect opportunity to meet us and other local businesses. We took along a variety of Strings of Pearls, Strings of Hearts, Strings of Dolphins, Strings of Turtles and Strings of Bananas, along with a healthy collection of fine bone vintage china. String of Turtles were the most popular plant sold on the day. What is your favourite?
